Two ice skaters with masses of 50kg and 60kg respectively are initially at rest and facing each other over a surface of ice. Find the final velocity of 60kg skater if the 50kg skater moves with a velocity of 5m/s.

    m_{1}=50, u_{1}=0, m_{2}=60, u_{2}=0, v_{1}=5 and v_{2}=?
    Recall
    \Rightarrow m_{1}u_{1} + m_{2}u_{2}=m_{1}v_{1} + m_{2}v_{2}
    \Rightarrow 50\times 0 + 60\times 0=50\times 5 + 60\times v_{2}
    \Rightarrow 0 + 0 = 250 + 60v_{2}
    make v_{2} subject of the formula
    \Rightarrow v_{2}=-250\div 60
    \therefore v_{2}=-4.17m/s^{2}
